Shopping Assistance for Older People

Aged Care may fund shopping assistance for eligible Consumers, including the elderly needing support when shopping. This support ensures you have someone to assist you with selecting and buying essential goods and services like groceries. As an approved Aged Care provider, NHCH offers personalised shopping assistance to Consumers through our team of trained and compassionate workers.

Aged Care funds support related to your age. This also covers shopping assistance. So, if you or a loved one cannot do their shopping independently due to their age, Aged Care may fund support.

The Aged Care funding covers all kinds of essential shopping assistance, whether it’s grocery shopping, purchasing personal items, or shopping for clothing and household essentials. It, however, does not cover the cost of items of daily needs. Your Aged Care funding will only cover the cost of assistance.

Consumer directed care

The Regional Assessment Service will work with you to develop a personalised home support plan tailored directly to your needs. Assessors send a ‘referral for service’ to appropriate providers, such as Newcastle and Hunter Community Health, to let them know you are a new client and would like to engage their services. The provider will contact you to make further arrangements.

Alternatively, if you would like to visit or speak to a service provide to decide if they are the right fit for you, a ‘referral code’ can be sent which allows them to view your client record. The provider will review your identified needs and determine how they can assist. You then make the final decision on whether or not to engage their services.
