Assistance With Daily Self-care in Newcastle and Hunter

For older people, having access to the right self-care assistance can enable them to live independently and comfortably in their own homes for as long as possible.

Self-care assistance may be covered under the My Aged Care plan depending on a person’s eligibility and needs. It will generally include help with various daily self-care activities like personal hygiene, toileting, grooming, bladder and bowel management, and basic healthcare.

While self-care involves personal care carried out by a person on their own, older people may require assistance from support workers or healthcare providers to manage these tasks effectively.

How to get Assistance With Daily Self-care

Depending on your location, you can try and find a support provider in your area, whether you need in-home help or support with transportation. NHCH, for instance, provides support services in Newcastle, Hunter and surrounding regions. Alternatively, you can call the ‘My Aged Care’ helpline at 1800 200 422 for help at home.

My Aged Care offers care packages for people aged 65 and over based on their needs. These are provided through approved support providers like NHCH. Call us today to learn more.

The Regional Assessment Service will work with you to develop a personalised home support plan tailored directly to your needs. Assessors send a ‘referral for service’ to appropriate providers, such as Newcastle and Hunter Community Health, to let them know you are a new client and would like to engage their services. The provider will contact you to make further arrangements.

Alternatively, if you would like to visit or speak to a service provide to decide if they are the right fit for you, a ‘referral code’ can be sent which allows them to view your client record. The provider will review your identified needs and determine how they can assist. You then make the final decision on whether or not to engage their services.
